Counseling FAQs

  • We know there are many people who are seeking help and encouragement to face life's difficulties and challenges. There are some who have sought help elsewhere and been disappointed with the results. We believe God provides answers and solutions through His Word. When we understand life and its struggles from God's perspective and then live that out, we experience life in the healthy abundance Jesus came to give us. Romans 15:13, Romans 5:3-5 (hope)

Biblical counseling involves understanding the problems of living in a fallen world – and their solutions – from a biblical perspective. The Bible is used both to define the problems and to develop methods for solving these problems.

The counselors at The Bridge Bible Church have received formal training in biblical counseling. They are not licensed psychologists, but rather pastoral counselors. They are either certified or in training to be certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, a national organization devoted to ensuring the quality of counseling offered by its members.

  • We provide individual, pre-marriage, marriage, family, and group counseling. Some of the issues may include depression, anxiety, divorce, grief, issues of worth, communication, anger, stress, family and relationship problems, sexual and relational brokenness, health issues, vocational problems, burnout, spiritual and ministry issues. God has also given us a specific ministry for counseling those who are dealing with addiction through My Hope for Addiction.

  • The Bible clearly states that gossip is wrong. Therefore, the counselors at The Bridge Bible Church will not release information about particular counselees except in the few situations required by the Bible or the laws of our state. Those situations are

    1) when someone is in danger of being harmed,

    2) when there is physical or sexual abuse,

    3) when someone persistently refuses to stop a sinful pattern, and it is necessary to seek assistance from his/her church to encourage good change (see Matthew 18:15-20 and Romans 13:1-7), or 4) when a pastor/elder are inquiring for general pastoral care and help.

  • Our counselors spend a lot of time praying and preparing for your session before they even meet with you the first time. • In general, most counseling sessions will be about 60 minutes. Once you have been assigned to a counselor, you will typically meet every week on the same day at the same time for as long as the counselor determines. On average counseling lasts 12 weeks, but some cases could be shorter or longer. Counselors will use God’s Word in every counseling session; therefore, we encourage you always to bring your Bible. There will also be homework assigned weekly to reinforce the counseling principles. Babysitting is NOT provided. If you come to your session expecting your child(ren) to sit and wait in the lobby while you are in your session, your appointment may be canceled for that day. Please make childcare arrangements ahead of time.

  • We not only provide counseling to individuals, but we also provide biblical counseling training and support to those who are seeking to become an ACBC Biblical Counselor. Therefore, you may have more than one counselor in your session to observe (learn) or to help co-lead the session with the main counselor. The primary counselor will discuss this with you prior to the start of counseling to make sure you are comfortable with this arrangement.

  • Occasionally there may be cases when it is in the best interest of the counselee to refer them to another counselor or other source of help. Referrals will be made to competent individuals whose approach we are comfortable with. We will walk you through the transition as needed so you never have to feel abandoned or discarded.
