Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble…

I usually can’t wait to share good and exciting news with others. I think of the hardest things is not telling my wife about the presents I buy for her before I give them to her. There is something special about sharing the blessings we have received and that we will give.

In this psalm we are commanded to give thanks to God! We may do this in our private lives but verse 2 tells us it in not meant to remain private, but we are to, “say so.” We are to tell others about how good God is and why we give Him thanks. It’s a simple exercise but a powerful one. It helps us focus in on Jesus and His work in our lives, and it transforms what others believe about God and helps them see God as one who concerned with our lives and will help us in everything, but especially in times of trouble.

Reflecting on this verse made me think through six questions. Try asking these questions to one another the next time you sit down around the dinner table and marvel at what God has done!

  1. How has God brought you into a relationship with Him? (Take turns telling your personal salvation story and focus on how God brought you to faith.)

  2. What has God helped you with in the recent past? (Think of a time recently when you have seen God work in your life.)

  3. How is God helping you now? (Where do you see God at work in your life now, or where are you praying to see God help you?)

  4. What particular character trait of God do you love or is brings you comfort? (Tell one of your favorite things about God.)

  5. What is one verse from the Bible that you are learning or thinking on this week?

  6. In what ways can you “say so” this week? (Tell how you can talk with friends, neighbors, other followers of Jesus about what you are thankful for.)

Pray: Lord thank you for the new life that comes through Jesus Christ. We ask that you continue to make our relationship with you stronger as you work in our lives. Help us to speak to others about why we are so thankful for your loving presence in our lives. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
