A Privilege Bought At A Price

“And Jesus cried out in a loud voice and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split...”

Matthew 27:50-51

I never got into reading comics but I sure loved the movies that have spun off of them. In several of the stories the hero begins his journey after a tragic event in his life. It’s this event of monumental significance that sets the course for the hero’s mission. As disciples’ our mission is set because of an awesome and tragic event. Our journey begins with the death of Christ, who makes our new life possible.

Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection has accomplished something truly awesome for those who place their trust in Him, that is he has caused them to be regarded as sons and daughters. And as new born children of God, we have the privilege to come into the very presence of God with our heartfelt prayers. It was with his very life that Jesus has made it possible for our prayers to be brought into the throne room of God as an act of worship and causes our prayers to be of importance to God just as the prayers of His Son are heard and are important to Him.

With such a privilege we are encouraged by the writer of Hebrews then to approach the throne of grace with confidence and let us approach the throne with thanksgiving and humility!

Father, thank you for giving us Christ Jesus who has made a way for us to come into your presence. We ask that we would not belittle the valuable gift of prayer! Help us to remember that you want to hear from us and you want to speak to us. Grow us in the discipline of prayer. Amen.
